I have always loved the way American's call shirts 'button-downs.' So I was sad to recently discover that this term is in fact incorrect when describing a shirt such as the lovely Dot and Herbey piece pictured above. Apparently 'button-down' is supposed to refer specifically to shirts with an American button down collar, as designed by the Brooks Brothers in 1896.
I don't care! I hear you say. Well, fair enough. Do titles mean anything when you are wearing such an adorable shirt on a crisp autumn day?
